We are very spoilt for choice in New Zealand for tent suppliers. If your looking for shelter from sun and/or rain, or simply want a unique wedding venue, tents can certainly make a beautiful and atmospheric statement on your big day.
You may picture a festival theme, elegant affair, casual garden, farm, or orchard wedding. It could be that you’ve always dreamed of professing your vows at your parents clifftop property overlooking the beach. When it comes to choosing, not all tents are created equal. Tents are pretty much a blank canvas (forgive the ‘pun’), and it’s important to think of the atmosphere and vibe you’d like to create before making that important choice. You’d be forgiven for thinking a tent, is simply a tent. Well, we’re here to tell you their not.
Do you want to let the outdoors in, would you like a cultural, festival or boho feel? Do you want to be able to gaze at the stars through the roof of the tent? Marquees can be as simple or as opulent as you like. From festoon lighting to fairy light ceilings, silk draping, moroccan lanterns, chandeliers, greenery, or simple bunting. There’s a tent or marquee to accommodate any wedding style. You can even hire teepees for the kids.
Most marquee and tent companies can adapt the size and shape of your space by putting a number of tents together to accommodate any number guests (within reason). If you’d like a separate tent for a dance floor, or to include a large dance floor within the main tent, an area for the band, or a ‘chill’ tent with rugs, pouffs, lounge furniture or cocktail tables. There’s something for everyone!
One of our favourite suppliers is @rajtentclubnz. They have a selection of beautifully handcrafted, highly detailed, ornate Indian tents which create a unique atmosphere.
Inspired by the nomadic traditions from around the world, not only do they offer stunning tents, they have a range of furniture and accessories to create a truly magical event. They aren’t necessarily just for an Indian wedding, but are suitable for a variety of weddings and events. Here is a couple of Raj Tents from Holli & Tri’s wedding, held at The Ambers B&B this April.

An exciting new arrival to the NZ market is the the high top roof ‘Sperry Tents’offered by @flagshipeventsnz
Similar to a circus tent propped up with poles, these authentic tents are traditionally handcrafted with sailcloth.
Once you’ve chosen your location to ‘pitch’ your tent, you’ll need an excellent caterer. There’s no point having a stunning tent with mediocre food. We wouldn’t go further than ScoffCateringNZ They provide superbly delicious food, fabulously trained staff and all meals are meticulously presented!
